Gardens and Grounds

Quintessentially English Gardens symbolised by a fine beech tree standing guard over the House, the gardens combine a mix of formal and informal designs. Sweeping lawns run up to the south and west elevations of the house with ornamental trees in a parkland setting which frame the far reaching views beyond.

Shrub and climbing roses feature prominently in the south rose garden alongside herbaceous borders with lavender and a honeysuckle hedge. Wisteria and Japanese Quince grow against the house and a 250 year old Mulberry Tree stands in the grounds.

On the south side terraced lawns lead down to a heated Swimming Pool with Summer House and all weather Tennis Court. A pear tree walk and lilac trees lead around the tennis court which is framed by majestic Poplar trees. The substantial and prolific walled Kitchen Garden with Elizabethan origins includes apple tree walks and fruit frames with Yew and Forsythia hedging. The fully irrigated kitchen garden, as with all of the grounds, has been skilfully and sensitively managed and grows a wide variety of vegetables and fruits including asparagus, globe artichoke, strawberries and raspberries, apples and pears, black and red currants, gooseberries and September berries.

Within the walls stand five greenhouses and garden stores alongside a herb garden. Six stables and outbuildings form an enclosed yard to the east of the house, with Garaging for seven cars and a Workshop.
